Concise work history

Since 1968 I have been working with all sorts of machines and in different companies on land and sea. My back got worse and worse and I was gradually forced to abandon paper machines, heavy marine diesel engines and power plants and take up computers... Before I retired I helped people to use computers and solve problems they had in using them.

Hobbies and interests

I have always been interested in technology, machines and apparatuses of all kinds. I spent a lot of time working with them, for example motorcycles and cars. I also examined household appliances, old radios and television sets - with varying success. When I got older people started paying me for working with machines.

I have been an avid reader. I prefer biographies and books that are based on facts, including historical works and visions of future. This is why I am also interested in genealogy.

I particularly like blues and old jazz. I cannot play any instrument, but I enjoy listening to all sorts of music depending on the mood in which I am.

I had an aquarium for a long time and although it was one of my favourite hobbies, I had to give it up due to my poor health.

Computers take up most of my time at home. After retiring I have not helped people with their computer problems any more.

I've been an amateur photographer all my adult life. I have taken most of the photographs with a traditional 35-mm camera, and the subjects have been family, trips, nature, buildings, machines etc. Being very keen on technology, my newest object of interest is digital photography. But I still use the 35-mm camera as before.

The way I live now

I have not touch one drop of alcohol since June 14, 1994.

And I smoked my last cigarette on September 29, 1997 after smoking for thirty years.

In 1994 we moved to the centre of the city. I sold our car because keeping it would have meant unnecessary pollution and I also wanted to protest against the Finnish tax system, as far as fuel and motor tax are concerned. People are also outrageously reckless as motorists. If I need a car for a holiday or for moving things, I will rent it.

Personally, I am all for things that preserve nature. However, I do not want to commit myself to any organization, society or party.
